Wednesday 12th April 2017

Not much happening today. Repacked and sent one bag on to Kyoto (Rest Day) to lighten the load on the springs. Great service across Japan to forward on luggage. Cost was 1370 yen. Booked for the private car collection tour in Kyoto.

Welcome dinner was very good with two musicians playing traditional music (one was playing a koto).

There was also a man making Japanese sweets from yams and bean paste. Most were in the shape of flowers but there was also “Kingyo” – goldfish  swimming in water. The water was like a clear jelly with two orange goldfish (carrot?) swimming. The eyes were black sesames and one sesame seed was cut in half for one pair of eyes. So intricate. The maker is third generation maker of such sweets and he was bent over for three hours making these delicate items for our desserts.
