Tuesday 11th April, 2017

Some rally people are starting to arrive now and we are catching up with people we know from previous rallies and meeting new ones.

It is still raining, so we drove to a coin laundry. Nearly everything in Japanese but managed to get the gist of both the washer and the dryer. Washing powder is automatic as is the temperature of the water so not too difficult to operate.
In the meantime Phil read (or looked at the pictures) in many of the available comic books (Manga – Japanese comics) from a huge stack in the laundry.

Washed and dried we headed for a tiny island off the coast of Fukuoka to do a “measured distance” to make sure our Halda was accurate according to the organisers’ recorded distance right around the island of 9.33kms. The Halda was pretty accurate although the GPS was out by .20km. It would have been a nice drive if the weather wasn’t so bad.

On the bridge crossing the causeway the car suffered fuel starvation and came to an abrupt halt. It was one way traffic due to bridge works so we pushed the car through the plastic moulded bowing men (barrier) and discovered that water moisture had caused one of the fuses to have a bad connection. The wind was howling and it was raining. Not a good place to break down with something more serious and our problem was soon fixed and we drove off the bridge.

Back to the hotel to see that the rally organisers had arrived and were setting up in the foyer. We were provided with our roadbooks, maps, a waterproof rainjacket, a cap and light shirts.

Dinner was Japanese and some sake was brought out for Phil & Matt to make a selection.
