Francistown Botswana to border Groblersburg South Africa then on to Sun City
Our thatched hut on stilts at Francistown
Hotel Reception
Activity in the carpark
Skippy the mechanic at work
Passing donkey carts, firewood for sale beside the road, cows wandering and weaver birds' nests we made our way towards the border. There was a passage control at Lerala where the proprietor of the service station had laid on muffins and patty cakes. She enthusiastically filled everyone's plate with several thickly iced, delicious cakes. Coffee was good too.
Yet another disinfectant check point, a few cattle grids and we reached the border at Martin's Drift which was straight forward and we entered South Africa at Groblersburg.
The first 100kms was farming land with rich red soil, traveller irrigators and all sorts of crops were being grown...carrots, corn, sunflower seeds, orange trees and cabbages.
Lunch was at Lephalale at the Ocean Basket. This is a seafood chain and the food was excellent.
We then headed down the R510 to Sun City. There were lots of roadworks on this stretch and it was usual to wait 15 to 20 minutes at temporary traffic lights so long were the repair works.
It was 36 degrees today so it was a relief to get to the hotel....but what an hotel!
This was one man's dream created from wasteland. Not to everyone's taste but interesting to see.
